For more than five decades, The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) has been dedicated to preventing and treating kidney disease in Singapore. A Lew Foundation beneficiary, NKF’s key mission is to provide affordable, life-saving dialysis care to those in need.
With over 40 dialysis centres across Singapore today, NKF not only provides critical dialysis services but also promotes kidney health through education, early detection and intervention.
Major expansion to meet growing demand
In 2019, the Lew Foundation donated $2 million to enhance the NKF Clementi dialysis centre. The donation funded a major retrofitting project that expanded the facility’s capacity from 20 to 30 dialysis stations. Completed in March 2021, the expanded facility serves up to 180 patients, significantly improving access for residents in the vicinity.
Round-the-clock dialysis care
Strategically located in a well-connected and easily accessible part of Clementi, the upgraded centre is one of the designated NKF dialysis centres offering 24-hour dialysis services, including nocturnal dialysis sessions. This option benefits working patients and those with complex treatment needs who require overnight care.
Easing the burden of travel
Understanding that access goes beyond physical infrastructure, the Lew Foundation subsequently committed an additional $300,000 over three years to fund transportation subsidies for underprivileged patients.
Enhancing comfort through purposeful giving
To improve patient comfort, the Lew Foundation further donated another $150,000 to fund 30 electrical recliner chairs. These enhancements provide greater comfort during overnight dialysis sessions, reflecting a shared belief that essential care should not only be accessible but also delivered with dignity, compassion and care.
